Joseph M. Diebold, CFP
Joseph Diebold is President and Co-Owner of Broadlake Financial. A Certified Financial Planner™, Joe started with the firm in 1992. For over 25 years, he has developed long-term working relationships with a large percentage of our clients, advising them in all aspects of their financial well-being.
After growing up in Northfield, Vermont, Joe graduated from the University of Vermont in 1988. He currently makes his home in Burlington with his two children, Harrison and Anna, and wife Nicole. His hobbies include camping, running, and golf.
Matthew A. Malaney, CFA
Matthew Malaney is President and Co-Owner of Broadlake Financial. Prior to joining the firm in 2007, Matt was a Senior Vice President at TD Banknorth Wealth Management Group in Burlington, VT where he managed the Vermont and New York investment departments. Matt has been in the investment industry since 1990 and earned the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 1996. Matt gained valuable experience working with high-net-worth individuals, institutions, and non-profits at both large investment firms like Citigroup Asset Management in New York, NY and Dean Witter Reynolds in Washington, DC as well as boutique RIA’s like American Asset Management Group in Rockville, MD and JL Capital Management in Washington, DC.
Having worked both on the ‘sell-side’ (Brokerage Firms) and the ‘buy-side’ (Banks and RIA’s), Matt is uniquely positioned to compare and contrast the two, very different, business models. He has served as an NASD arbitrator and is a member of the Vermont CFA Society and the CFA Institute. Matt grew up in Highgate, VT, and is a graduate of Dartmouth College.
Matt lives in Shelburne, Vermont with his wife, Kellie, and their two sons, Calvin and Connor. Matt has served as a volunteer for the United Way and as a Howard Center Community Friends Mentor and spent many years coaching youth hockey, soccer, baseball and lacrosse. Matt’s many outdoor activities include golf, biking, gardening, birding and target shooting and he credits his long-running ice hockey groups for maintaining his sanity during the eternal Vermont winters.
Andrew D. Murphy, CFA
Andrew is a Portfolio Manager at Broadlake Financial, as well as the firm’s Chief Compliance Officer. He joined the firm in 2005, and received his CFA Charter in 2010. Andrew is a member of the CFA Institute, the global association for investment management professionals, and he serves as the Vice President of the CFA Society of Vermont.
A native Vermonter, Andrew grew up in Berlin and graduated from the University of Vermont with a BA in Economics. Prior to joining the firm, Andrew had internships with MBF Clearing Corp on the New York Mercantile Exchange, and with Alfa Capital in Moscow, Russia.
Andrew lives in Essex with his wife, Cindy. When not tinkering on house projects, you will likely see Andrew coaching or playing basketball, tennis, or Ultimate Frisbee.
Joseph S. Smithwick
Joseph serves as Operations Manager at Broadlake Financial. Having joined the firm in 2004, he is in charge of the firm’s back-office processes, making sure all office technologies are working properly and meeting the needs of the firm. He also interacts regularly with all of Broadlake’s clients.
In 2006, Joseph passed the Uniform Investment Adviser Law Examination. Known as the Series 65, this exam covers laws, regulations, and ethics on topics such as retirement planning, portfolio management strategies and fiduciary responsibilities.
Joseph has a background in sales, client service, technology consultation, and electronics. When not in the office, Joseph enjoys reading, biking, running, and traveling.
